Who is responsible
The data controller is Sylvain Bellier, who designs and runs Terrain & Traces.
The business is not yet registered. This page will be updated at launch with the company’s legal details.

What this website does not do
- It sets no cookies.
- It does not ask you to create an account.
- It has no forms, no advertising and no social media buttons.
- It does not sell or share your data for commercial purposes.
Audience measurement
To understand which pages and questions matter to visitors, the website uses Umami, a cookie-free analytics tool. It runs on a server I administer myself, in the European Union (stats.terrain-traces.fr). No data is sent to a third-party vendor.
Data collected, in aggregate form:
- the page viewed and the referring page;
- the type of browser, operating system and device, and the browser language;
- the country, derived from the IP address at the time of the visit;
- a few actions on the site: opening an FAQ category or question, clicking a contact button.
Your IP address is not stored. This data cannot identify you and is not combined with any other source. It is kept for no more than 25 months.
If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, no measurement takes place. A content blocker also prevents measurement.
When you write to me
The “Request an initial conversation” and “Request a quotation” buttons open your own email application. I then receive your email address and whatever you choose to share: names, dates, family documents or photographs.
This information is used only to reply to you, to assess whether research is possible and to prepare your visit. It is never published without your written consent. It is kept for the duration of our exchanges and of the service, then for no more than 3 years after our last contact, unless the law requires longer retention (invoices, for example).
External service loaded by your browser
The website’s typefaces and libraries are hosted on my own server. Only one external service is contacted: OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation), for the background of the interactive map on the home page. Like any website you visit, it receives your IP address. It applies its own privacy policy.
Server logs
The website and the analytics tool are hosted on private servers that I administer, at OVHcloud (see the legal notice). Like any web server, they keep technical logs (IP address, date, page requested) to ensure security and diagnose faults. These logs are kept for no more than 12 months and are used for no other purpose.
Your rights
You may at any time request access to your data, its correction, erasure or restriction, or object to its processing. Write to bonjour@terrain-traces.fr. I reply within one month.
If you believe your rights have not been respected, you may lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr), or with the authority in your own country.
